In stealing back time, I direct some of the extra time I gained to getting adequate sleep, this is an easy plan to implement. Two nights a week to refresh and restore my mind I plan and physically make myself get in bed at 9:00p.m. The television is turned off and I find my favorite relaxing music to rest my soul. To accomplish this goal I prep family meals for those specific nights on Saturday evening. A simple meal to prepare is beef stew in a crock pot or potato soup.
When I walk in from a long day I grab dinner out of the refrigerator warm it up and serve. Because I planned the week-end before.
Each family member has to be at the kitchen table for dinner by 6:20 that is what works for my family. The television is off most of the week to minimize distractions. After dinner we visit about the day and dive into homework, followed by practicing their instruments. Usually 1.5 to 1.75 hours later, all kiddos must report to the bathroom for teeth brushing and a shower/bath.
At times this task is somewhat hairy but we stick to the time-table, after bath time, we pray as a family the children are in bed by 8:50 and I head off to prepare for my 9:00p.m. crash time. The only way this works is to commit the family to a timetable, but in doing so it allows you to refuel for the week and present your best foot forward.
